Meet One of Our Newest Exec Members

Sabrina P. Goodson, LCSW, RA, CADCII

My VA Social Work career began

with the Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System as a clinical Social Worker in the Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program in March, 2014. My contributions to the program included advocating for a relapse prevention track to assist veterans who relapsed, addressing the needs of co-occurring disorders by instructing from the Seeking Safety Model for veterans with PTSD and substance use disorders, serving as the subject matter expert on the panel to start a Suboxone Clinic within the program, providing supervision for our first program intern, and editing and contributing to writing the Orientation Manual for new patients to the program. I transferred to the Atlanta VA Healthcare System in October 2019 and currently serve as a Senior Social Worker on the Advance Care Planning Team. Our goal is to ensure that every veteran receives education about the advance care planning process and are afforded an opportunity to contribute to the development of their personal advance healthcare plan.

I have served as the Unit Representative for the North Georgia Unit of the National Association of Social Workers, Georgia Chapter. I was elected and served as the Vice President for the National Association of Social Workers, Georgia Chapter. I served as a Regional Delegate for the National Association of Social Workers, Region IV. I was appointed to serve as an Ethics

Consultant on the Integrated Ethics Council while employed at the Central Alabama VA Healthcare System and continue to serve at the Atlanta VA Healthcare System. I also served on the Performance Improvement Committee while employed at CAVHCS and assisted in conducting peer reviews.

I joined the Association of VA Social Workers in 2015 and served as a Site Lead/Champion while employed at CAVHCS. After transferring to the Atlanta VA Healthcare System I became the Member At Large, Leadership representative. I hope to continue to spread the word about the works of the Association and encourage others to become a part of the great work being done to support Social Workers across all VA platforms.
